5 Fab Things To Do On The Coast This Week
From film festivals to foodie extravaganzas and weird but wonderful eye-gazing events, it’s all unfolding across the region over the next seven days.
So, if you’re looking for fab things to do on the Sunshine Coast this week, let’s start with these five fab ways you could occupy yourself.
Sunshine Coast Surf Film Festival | Thursday, May 18 to Sunday, May 21
We told you once, and we’ll tell you twice, the Sunshine Coast Surf Film Festival is happening this week and we reckon it’s going to be pretty spesh! With showings at the cinema in Caloundra and a pop-up posi in Moffat Beach, tickets are super cheap, going for between $10 and $15. The program is filled with short and feature films plus chats with the people who turned them from an idea into a reality, AKA the producers. Find out what floats your boat over here, and book your seats, stat.
Noosa Food & Wine | Thursday, May 18 to Sunday, May 21
It would be criminal for us to do a roundup of the best things to do on the Sunshine Coast this week and NOT mention this mammoth food-centred festival. And anyways, it’s that good that you’d be crazy to not at least peek at all the events and offerings to see if there’s any that hit your sweet spot. From dinners on the beach, literally on the sand, to glamping on a local farm, and pop-up events at the best restaurants in Noosa, we don’t need much convincing that this is a bucket list shindig for any real-deal food lover.
Catalina X Rick Shores Cocktail Event | Saturday, May 20
Exquisite, exclusive, extraordinary—were just some of the words that popped into mind when we heard about Coast to Coast, a decadent cocktail event popping up on Catalina this weekend. Teaming up with Rick Shores head chef Jake Pregnell, Catalina will host a pan-Asian foodie extravaganza serving up six mouth-watering courses (think: Rick’s signature Bug Roll bites and freshly shucked oysters with a Thai vinaigrette) paired with Australian wines and craft beers. They’ll be serving Belvedere Spritz on the hour and pouring Chandon Sparkling all afternoon to a soundtrack of classic disco, hip hop, and soul. Sounds kinda perfect, huh? But wait, it gets better! This event lines up with Noosa Food and Wine, so the Catalina folk are loading you up with VIP ticket to The Woods (set up at the end of Hastings Street)—they’ll even drop you there! Find out more deets and then lock in your ticket here.
Sunshine Coast Fashion Market | Saturday, May 20
We’ve shared a big dose of love for Sunshine Coast Fashion Market before, though we can’t help but have even bigger heart eyes now that it’s becoming a regular thing. How does it work? Pay a $2 entry fee, and you’ll gain access to over 70 stalls of second-hand clothing from local gals. That’s something like 10,000 potential new-to-you outfits all piled into one space—a thrifter’s paradise. Held at the Lake Kawana Community Centre, you can shoot across the road for all your fresh produce needs at the farmer’s market, when you’re done.
Free Eye-Gazing Event | Saturday, May 20
We’ve found out about an event that’s sure to get you tapping your toes and calling up that one friend who loves doing the same weird stuff as you. And really, can it get much weirder better than an eye-gazing event? Yep, prepare to sit opposite someone you may or may not know and stare into their eyes without saying a word. Held at Cotton Tree Park from 12pm (because things like this need to be done publicly for the enjoyment of passersby), this free shebang is based around the idea that sometimes words can be a barrier when we try to connect with people around us.
