5 Fun Events To Check Out This Weekend
We’re not letting a little (okay, maybe a lot) of dampness rain on our parade.
So, grab your brollie, those cute gumboots you never get to wear, and head out to enjoy any of these cool things to do on the Gold Coast—happening this weekend.
Blues On Broadbeach | Thursday 18 to Sunday 21
Sure there’s some rain in the forecast, but organisers have assured us, the show must go on! Rain, hail, or shine, the 16th edition of Blues On Broadbeach will still be one of the best things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend. Harts, 19-Twenty, Little Georgia, as well as Byron Bluesfest busking finalist Matt Stillert, Captain Dreamboat, and Claude Hay are joining the stages with resident groovers Juzzie Smith, Cheap Fakes, and The James Street Preachers. And because we know how much you love to eat, go with an empty stomach and an open wallet to try newbie restaurants: with Harajuku Gyoza, Main Street Burger Bar, and Mario’s all throwing open their doors this weekend.
Lovechild Vegan Market | Saturday 20
Cruelty-free, plant-loving goddess Abbey Jones of Lovechild Place, together with a bunch of other great local vendors, are descending on Mermaid Beach this weekend for a 100 per cent vegan market! Popping up between 10am and 3pm in the alleyway adjacent to Lovechild, chew down on guilt-free vegan treats from Greenhouse Canteen, The Wiener Haus, CocoWhip, All Time Coffee (OMG, maple “bacon” doughtnuts filled with maple jelly), BVKD Desserts, Space Bars Icecreamery, plus other goodies for your home from The Borrowed Nursery, NESST and, of course, vegan-friendly fashions and wares from Lovechild itself. We’re sensing this will be one of the most feel-good things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend.
Million Paws Walk | Sunday 21
Everyone’s favourite annual dog walk is back to help fight cruelty to animals for its 21st year—wowsers! The RSPCA Million Paws Walk is happening from 8:30am on Sunday, May 21 at The Great Lawn at Broadwater Parklands (with over 20 other regional walks across QLD for those of you not on the Gold Coast). On the day of the event, you’ll walk the 1.5km or 3km course with your furry four-legged friend before indulging in food stalls, coffee (mmm… coffeeee), and cookies, before you take your doggo home for a well-deserved rest.
The Backyard Series | Sunday 21
Good thing Sunday sessions are an all-year round kinda deal on the Gold Coast. This Sunday, Palm Beach craft beer fave, Lester & Earl has got you covered with their second installment of The Backyard Series. Kicking off at 2pm in their dinky di backyard, come for the live music by Hell & Whiskey, DJs from Club Guilty Pleasures, Wild Turkey and Burleigh Brewing pop-up bars, backyard games, plus all those smoky BBQ eats that you know and trust from the gents upstairs.
Sudiman Cup World Badminton Champs | Sunday 21 to Sunday 28
Interesting fact: badminton is one of the most watched sports during every Olympic and Commonwealth Games telecast. Which means all eyes will be on the Gold Coast when our first official test event, the Sudirman Cup world mixed team champs, hits the sparklingly new Carrara Sports Stadium. Fast paced and furious, for something totally different, we suggest you nab your seat to cheer on a staggering 30 nations represented by 1,500 elite competitors. We’re hedging our bets it’ll be one of the most fascinating things to do on the Gold Coast this May.
