4 New Venues To Get Excited About
It’s feeling like summer, all over again. And it’s got nothing to do with the weather, and everything to do with the fact a flood of new venues are preparing to open their doors for our dining pleasure.
Just when you thought you were getting on top of your to-dine bucket list, along comes a whole swag of additional newbies to open your wallet for. Here are just a handful of the soon-to-drop Gold Coast restaurants we’re super excited about.
Tacocat | Burleigh Heads
Earlier this week, a sneaky post appeared on the Easy Street Diner’s Insta feed. Did you see it? Yep, after the raging success of Luckies at The Collective, everyone’s fave American diner is preparing to launch their THIRD venture for all their devoted fans. But wait, there’s a twist! If the cheeky name Tacocat is any indication, the crew is working on their first Mexican joint. Hola! Taking the keys to a recently vacated alleyway space across from Harvest Moon, just off James Street, this newbie will be about as close as you’ll come to hidden alleyway eating and drinking on the Coast. Due to open late June, the indoor-outdoor eatery is undergoing a bright, white makeover with vibrant and bold splashes of colour, cool fabrics, and Mexico City-inspired paraphernalia. Menu-wise, think easy fare, traditional Mexican street food with a fun twist, as you’d expect from the Easy Street team. They’ll be putting added emphasis on an awesome drinks offering too; we’re picturing creative margaritas, Micheladas, and other tequila-laced liquid goodies. Taco-about awesome!

Poké Poké | Mermaid Beach
You lot went crazy earlier this year when we shared a tiny handful of venues serving up a dish that’d recently taken the world by storm—we’re talking poké bowls. So, we bet you’re tripping over yourselves with excitement at the pending arrival of Poké Poké, a freakin’ dedicated poke bowl joint. We sure as hell are! Brought to you by the legends behind Bonita Bonita and BonBon Bar, another double name for double the impact, Poké Poké is on track to open late May. A ton of teasers have been leaked via Insta stories, and this quirky fit-out has us all intrigued. From an Instagrammed cave window framed with hanging greenery and ripening bunches of bananas, Hawaiian-inspired wood panel carvings adoring the walls, playful flamingo wallpaper, tiki adornments, upcycled doors and woodwork, and tropical vibes galore, we’re already in love. Set to open from 8am to 8pm, seven days, we’re drooling over menu specialties including a swag of nourishing Hawaiian poké bowls, savoury Caribbean roti rolls, and morning selections of brekkie poke bowls, Caribbean roti rolls, and colourful smoothie bowl creations (wipes drool). Check back soon for your exclusive first pics!

BASKK At Kirra Point | Coolangatta
There’s a pocket on the northern end of Cooly’s Marine Parade that’s in serious need of an injection of life. Thankfully, one local business that is already long invested in the area, is taking a leap of faith and opening their second venture, close to Kirra Hill. Work is well underway and on track for an early June launch, of the southern Gold Coast’s newest addition, BASKK, brought to us by the (Cafe) DBar Group. If teasers via their Insta account and super slick branding are anything to go by, we can expect a breezy and beachy fit-out inspired by nostalgic resort holidays; featuring lots of white, wood, and float some jetsome, lounge tunes, and “I’m on holidays” vibes; plus fanciful and refined dishes embracing wholesome ingredients. Beautifully plated dishes already on the menu include Rangers Valley Wagyu sirloin with salsa verde and juicy lamb cutlets with spiced yoghurt, dried fruits and soft herbs, plus fresh oysters and wood-fired pizzas. Morphing from day to evening, this self-proclaimed “social destination” promises healthy breakfasts, long lunches, and vibrant tapas dinners, with a pretty spesh gin (?) and an espresso martini menu. There’s even hint at a wee dance floor if your mood leads you that way, incited by a live DJ on weekends. All sounds a little too good to be true at the moment? Fair enough; but we’ve got a sneaking suspicion BASKK will be worth the wait. Stay tuned.

Broadbeach’s Newest Foodie Hub
Okay, so this gathering of newbies officially takes the tally to about nine new venues but, who’s counting? For those who haven’t ventured past Broadbeach’s Victoria Avenue in a few months, you will have missed the significant works underway on the outskirts of The Oasis Shopping Plaza, adjacent to the old carousel. Let’s just say, this whole beachside corner is making the final finishing touches, in preparation to swing open multiple doors this month alone. Last week we broke news that boisterous and kitsch Tokyo-inspired Harajuku Gyoza (that’s a mouthful) will be opening with Australia’s very first Japanese microbrewery inside. Seriously! And burger lovers are seriously spoilt for choice already, with Byron Bay institution, Main Street Burger Bar only days away from flipping their legendary burgers for the Gold Coast. Old timer Mario’s Italian is re-launching with a contemporary new fit-out while Beachside Pavilion is honing in on upmarket surf and turf (AKA seafood and steak), with fun nautical details peppering the décor. But wait, there’s more. Just on a year old and already busting out of its shell given its overwhelming popularity, The Loose Moose is spreading over to the space vacated by Hatch & Co., and is soon to morph into Roosevelt Lounge. Expect a sassy hangout for those who still wanna night out, but are past the seedy nightclub days; and if the last staggering fit-out is anything to go by, these guys are working on something impressive! So, who’s hungry?
