Pssst… Two New Cocktail Bars Are Coming Our Way!
Seriously guys, we can’t keep up.
Another day, and another announcement has come across our desk. This time, one of the Coast’s favourite hospo heavyweights has announced they’re opening not one, but TWO new bars in the coming months. We kid you not.
Already legendary around these parts for bringing us the Coast’s first dedicated craft beer bar, Bine Bar & Dining, and for turning the most unlikely of locations into one of the area’s busiest venues—Hideaway Bar & Dining… Yeah, you know where we’re going with this!
Scott Imlach, together with his long-time business partner Simone Tunbridge and best mate Michael Craighead, have lobbied long and hard to bring small bar licensing to the Gold Coast. A move was recently passed through council, and they’re wasting no time to open the Coast’s first official small bars—two of them!
So, what is a small bar? It’s a bar that can operate without any requirement whatsoever to provide food nor install a kitchen. Its primary purpose is a good-time watering hole, nothing more and nothing less. Which means these guys can focus on what they do best—crafting a killer drinks selection of craft beers, extensive wines, Australia liqueurs (like Brookies Byron Bay Gin and Limeburners Whisky from Margaret River), alongside signature cocktails (you’ll see no Pina Coladas here!).
These guys also know all booze and no food can be a risky combo, so patrons are welcome to BYO food, if they’re so inclined. Very interesting… and somewhat of a game changer, we’re predicting.
First off the ranks is a cool speakeasy-style bar in Broadbeach, labelled Soho Place and inspired by Scott’s time living and working in London. While it’ll be adorned with characteristics of ol’ London town, the underground speakeasy influence is taken from America’s 1920s Prohibition era.
Motivated by this fascinating period of time, Soho Place will follow the same tact with no signs and no obvious entryway; basically, you’ve gotta to be in the know. Smooth and funky lounge beats and house will set the mood, with live music and DJs all in the plans. Aimed at us savvy 25+ year olds (sorry youngens, enjoy Orchid Avenue while you don’t know any better), we’re told works are already well underway, with Soho Place on track to open late June.
But the breaking news doesn’t end there, peeps! Scott, Simone, Michael, and the team have their eyes on much-loved Burleigh next. With a location already secured in the laneway behind Justin Lane, they’ll be aiming to open Nightjar, their second concept small bar, this spring.
Too much to take in? Agreed! We’ll be back to share first pictures as soon as we’re given the top-secret directions…
