12 Awesome Things To Do On The Gold Coast This December
We’re edging closer to the end of the year, folks. But with so much happening in the next 31 days, we reckon it’s about time we all hit the brakes and enjoy!
Free music concerts, Sunday sessions, Christmassy events, and rum workshops, we think we just fell for December. Hard. Here’s our pick of the best things to do on the Gold Coast this month.
Mayor’s Christmas Carols | Saturday, December 3
There will be no sneaking into December without the festive season at the forefront of your mind—with the first cab off the ranks being the long-running Mayor’s Christmas Carols at Broadwater Parklands. The Aria-award winning diva with the big voice, Kate Ceberano is this year’s star attraction (aside from the fat man in the red suit, of course).
The Rubens Free Concert at The Islander | Sunday, December 4
Triple J Hottest 100 darlings, The Rubens, and their hit single Hoops are enroute to our surf city this December. Eep! We’re intrigued to see what the host location, The Islander has in store for us, too. Word on the street is, this vintage Surfers Paradise hotel is undergoing a major reno and rebrand, so what better way to lure you in than with a free concert. It’s all part of Corona Sunsets’ national tour and kicks off at 7pm.
Calypso Sundays at QT Gold Coast | Launching Sunday, December 4
Summer is the season for Sunday sessions, amirite? QT Gold Coast knows this, and is working their magic to launch Calypso Sundays at Stingray Lounge and the adjoining poolside patio. You ready? Creating the Coast’s very own beach club, every Sunday through summer there will be sunshine, live acoustics, selfie-worthy Calypso waiters, lawn games, seafood platters, and always-summer vibes. Entry is free, but bring coin for cocktails, obvs.
Balter and Blackboard Collab at Warehouse No. 5 | Wednesday, December 7
Two of the Gold Coast’s most celebrated brands, Balter and Blackboard are teaming up for one cool evening shindig, Beneath the Brew hosted by another of our faves, Warehouse No. 5. Good mates Nick Pearce of Blackboard Coffee and Stirling Howland, co-founder of Balter Brewing Company will be sharing their insights on what goes into building a successful and fulfilling business. The event promises to “explore how their innovative products, customer experience, and physical establishments are creating subcultures, connecting with the broader community and, in turn, playing their part in redefining the Gold Coast culture”. Tickets are $32+bf and available online now—act fast.

What do you do when you reach double digits? You throw a lil’ party, invite all your loyal followers, and shower them with giveaways, naturally! Southport’s much-loved shopping hub, Ferry Road Markets is celebrating 10 years in the biz this month, and will be giving away thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes next Saturday. So, head down early to get your entries in, grab brekkie at Cardamom Pod, and take advantage of a bunch of attractive one-day-only specials.
Coolangatta Christmas Carols | Sunday, December 11
There’s plenty of Christmas cheer, tree lighting, and Santa appearances happening all up and down the Coast, but this southern event remains one of the best. Gather up the kidlets or besties, pack a picnic, dust off your fuzzy Santa hat and reindeer antlers, then head down to the Coolangatta Christmas Carols at Queen Elizabeth Park and get amongst the festivities.
Summer Rum Workshop With The Cambus Wallace | Thursday, December 22
Yo, HO, HO and a bottle of rum. Apparently Santa likes rum too, so spending an evening talking all things rum with the legends behind The Cambus Wallace sounds like a fitting way to spend the last Thursday before Christmas. Hosted by Warehouse No. 5 and $55+bf to take part, join co-owner and fellow rum-lover Dave Ferry in an open discussion about the various types of rum, their origins, what to look for in a quality rum, and even ideas for rum-infused summer cocktails. Mmmmm! Rum tastings and tasty tapas bites from The Spanish Catering Co. are included in your ticket.
New Year’s Eve on the Gold Coast | Saturday, December 31
Given this month is dominated by the jolly fat man in the red suit, we know it’s hard to think past December 25. But, it’ll also be here and gone before we know it, which can only mean one thing—New Year’s Eve parties! Word of the Coast’s hottest parties are just starting to trickle in, so keeps your eyes on Metropolist as we dish the dirt on the best of the best.

Get set to christen Gold Coast’s hottest new rooftop bar with the fast-approaching launch of The Collective marketplace in Palm Beach.
